What is laser hair removal?
Lasers produce a single wavelength of light with a highly concentrated beam targeting the melanin in the hair follicle, making them far more effective for hair removal. IPL equipment produces broad-spectrum multi-wavelength light — it is not a laser and cannot be focused into a concentrated beam.
What is the difference between IPL and laser hair removal?
Lasers produce a single wavelength of light with a highly concentrated beam targeting the melanin in the hair follicle. IPL devices are not lasers — they produce a broad spectrum of wavelengths and cannot be focused into a concentrated beam. Since various wavelengths are dispersed at different depths, only some are effective at reducing hair. IPL light penetration is superficial and thick hairs cannot be treated effectively. The laser works with energy many times more powerful than IPL.
How many sessions are needed for complete hair removal?
This varies individually, but you will notice impressive results from your very first session. For women typically 5–7 sessions are required and for men 6–8, for complete hair removal. Intervals vary: face 30–40 days, legs 60–90 days. As sessions progress the intervals increase gradually into maintenance. At SATORI you will receive an individual consultation with our specialist, who will advise on the number of sessions for your specific case.
Why is it important to shave before laser hair removal?
It is strongly recommended to shave the treatment area, as any hair above the skin surface will block the laser from reaching the hair follicle — this is essential for an effective procedure. Shave 12–24 hours before the session.
Is laser hair removal suitable in summer?
At SATORI we use the highest-class laser equipment from Alma Lasers. The highly effective and safe Soprano Titanium laser treats all skin types without any issues, including tanned skin.
Is laser hair removal painful?
There is no cause for concern. The latest systems, such as the Soprano Titanium laser, are practically painless. Most clients feel only a slight warming sensation in the area being treated. If you are overly sensitive to pain you may feel slight discomfort. At SATORI we use the most powerful diode laser on the market. Its innovative technology and cooling system create the conditions for a fast, painless procedure.
How long do laser hair removal results last?
Results vary depending on your hair and skin type. Proper preparation and aftercare also affect the longevity of results. Laser hair removal can eliminate up to 90% of all unwanted hair. For long-lasting results, maintenance procedures once a year or two are recommended when more than 10% regrowth is observed.
What is the minimum age for laser hair removal?
There is no specific minimum age, but it is important to wait until after puberty before starting laser hair removal. Generally 14 years is the earliest age at which people can begin. Hormonal changes during puberty could affect results. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must accompany you on your first visit.
How do I prepare for laser hair removal?
To prepare for laser hair removal, avoid plucking and waxing for 30 days before the procedure. Shave the area 12–24 hours before the session, but do not apply lotions, moisturisers or sunscreen. In the days before, avoid medications such as blood thinners, NSAIDs, dyes and photosensitising drugs. If you are unsure whether your medication could affect the treatment, contact us and we will advise.
Can I start laser hair removal if I am pregnant?
It is best to play it safe and avoid laser hair removal during pregnancy. There is no evidence to suggest it is harmful, but no long-term studies have been conducted on the laser’s effect on the unborn child. We do not recommend laser hair removal during pregnancy.
Are there body areas where laser hair removal cannot be done?
Laser hair removal can be performed on any part of the body except the eyelids. The most popular treatment areas are the legs, back, arms, chest, upper lip, underarms and bikini zone. You can also treat the ears, nose, scalp and forehead. Our specialists are always available to advise on specific zones and expected results.
I have dark skin. Can I have laser hair removal?
Anyone can start laser hair removal regardless of skin colour or hair type. People with light skin and dark hair tend to see faster results. At SATORI we use the Soprano Titanium laser, which effectively treats all skin types including darker skin.
Are there side effects of laser hair removal?
Side effects are minimal — this is one of the main advantages of laser hair removal. Some people experience temporary redness, itching and swelling immediately after the procedure — a sign of an effective treatment. These typically disappear within a few hours and can be soothed with aloe vera. In rare cases, marks or blisters may appear, but usually only in those who do not follow the correct aftercare.
Can I have laser hair removal during my period?
There are no contraindications to laser hair removal during your period. You will need to wear a tampon and the procedure can proceed normally. Please note that skin sensitivity is heightened during this time.
How long do laser hair removal sessions take?
At SATORI we use the Soprano Titanium diode laser, offering fast, painless procedures with long-lasting results. Session duration depends on the treatment area: small zones (face, underarms) take around 5 minutes; arms, intimate zone, abdomen and back around 30 minutes; legs around 40–50 minutes. Combinations extend the session. Contact us to find out how long to allow.
Can I exercise on the same day as laser hair removal?
You can exercise before the procedure, but we do not recommend intense training immediately after. It is not ideal for the treated area to sweat. Avoid hot showers, saunas and steam baths for 24 hours after the procedure.
What if I am taking medication?
Inform your therapist if you have taken any medication within 7 days before the procedure. Some medications can cause photosensitivity, which could lead to an unwanted skin reaction such as hyperpigmentation or burns.
Can laser hair removal remove white/grey hairs?
Laser hair removal cannot remove white or grey hairs. The laser targets melanin in the hair follicle — white/grey hairs contain no melanin and cannot be deactivated. Blonde hairs, however, can sometimes be treated.
What to expect after a laser hair removal procedure?
After the procedure you can return to your normal daily activities. Within 14 days you will notice the hairs beginning to shed — do not remove them during this interval. Shave the area immediately before your next session.
Do I need to use sun protection?
After a procedure we recommend applying SPF50 sun protection carefully to all treated areas. Reapply every two hours when outdoors.
Can fair/blonde hairs be treated?
The Alma Soprano Titanium laser can treat both dark and light hairs. At your first visit our specialist will assess the number of sessions needed and the effectiveness of the treatment for your hair type.
Can I have laser hair removal with varicose veins?
Please consult your GP regarding your condition. In some cases we can treat an area with varicose veins; in others the discomfort may be too strong and it may not be possible.
Can I have laser hair removal if I have acne?
You can have laser hair removal in areas where you have acne. You may feel more discomfort during the procedure. Laser treatment can also improve the appearance of the skin by removing hair and reducing oil production.
Can I have laser hair removal with skin conditions — vitiligo, eczema, psoriasis, etc.?
It is not advisable to have laser hair removal if you have any of the above skin conditions. Laser treatment, even in an area without active symptoms, may trigger a spread of the condition.
Can I have laser hair removal if I have tattoos?
You can have laser hair removal in areas around the tattoo, but not over it. If the laser contacts the tattoo it will cause burning and damage the tattoo. Our specialists will cover tattoos before the procedure.
Can I have laser hair removal after a chemical peel?
If the area to be treated with laser has undergone a chemical peel less than 2 weeks before the procedure, the laser hair removal will need to be postponed.
Can I have laser hair removal if I have moles?
Moles are common skin formations that must not be treated with a laser. Before the procedure our specialists will cover moles with a white pencil and a sticker to prevent laser exposure. If a mole shows any reaction, please contact our specialist or a dermatologist.
Can I shower after laser hair removal?
We recommend not showering immediately after the procedure, and when you do, to use cool water. Avoid heating procedures and hot showers for 24 hours after the treatment.
Can I apply body lotions after laser hair removal?
We recommend moisturising with natural products. Coconut oil or aloe vera are excellent choices. If you expose the treated area to sunlight, apply SPF50 sun protection.
How to remove facial hair between sessions?
Facial hair should only be removed by shaving or trimming between sessions. Our specialists recommend using a trimmer for precision, or trimming with scissors.
Can I shape or remove my beard with laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal is suitable for both female and male faces. With the Soprano Titanium diode laser, men can remove their beard entirely or shape it to their preference.
Can I have laser hair removal while breastfeeding?
You can start laser hair removal while breastfeeding, but we recommend waiting until you have stopped, as hormones are still normalising during this period. Please consult our specialists.
Can I have laser hair removal while taking vitamins?
Vitamins are not a problem for laser hair removal provided they do not exceed the standard daily dose. If you are taking a higher dose, a photosensitivity test can be performed and our specialists can advise.
Can I use self-tanner during laser hair removal?
You cannot use self-tanner during a laser hair removal course. At least 30 full days must have passed since the last application of such products.
I have PCOS. Does it affect laser hair removal results?
Polycystic ovary syndrome increases testosterone production, which is directly linked to body hair. When the condition is managed with medication and/or supplements, laser hair removal is effective.
I have elevated testosterone. Does it affect laser hair removal?
Elevated testosterone in women leads to increased body hair (Hirsutism) — hair growth in areas atypical for the female body (e.g. beard, areolas). When levels are managed, laser hair removal is effective.
Can I have facial laser hair removal with braces?
Laser hair removal is not a problem if you have braces. During the procedure we will place a cotton pad between your teeth and lip to minimise contact between the laser beam and the braces. For all other body areas there are no restrictions.
Can I go swimming after laser hair removal?
Avoid swimming pools for at least 24 hours after a procedure. Pool water is treated with chlorine and strong disinfectants, which could cause allergic reactions or skin irritation in the treated area.
Can I have sexual intercourse before/after an intimate area procedure?
We recommend avoiding sexual intercourse 24 hours before and after an intimate area procedure. The procedure itself may feel more uncomfortable if preceded by sexual activity. The skin in this area is sensitive and needs protection.
Should I apply specific cosmetics after the procedure?
After laser hair removal, as with any cosmetic procedure, it is important to care for your skin. Moisturisation is essential. Use natural oils and creams, and apply SPF50 when exposing the area to sunlight.
Is laser hair removal possible (e.g. armpits) with a breast adenoma?
